New York Metropolis mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani mentioned Sunday he doesn’t consider “that we must always have billionaires.”
“You’re a self-described democratic socialist. Do you assume that billionaires have a proper to exist?” NBC Information’s Kristen Welker requested on “Meet the Press.”
“I do not assume that we must always have billionaires as a result of, frankly, it’s so a lot cash in a second of such inequality. And finally, what we want extra of is equality throughout our metropolis and throughout our state and throughout our nation,” Mamdani responded.
“And I sit up for working with everybody, together with billionaires, to make a metropolis that’s fairer for all of them,” he added.
Mamdani shocked American political observers this week as he gave the impression to be on a path to clinching the Democratic nomination for the Big Apple’s mayor whereas dealing with down former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
If Mamdani secures New York Metropolis’s prime job, he could be its first Muslim and Asian mayor.

I’m honored to be your Democratic nominee for the Mayor of New York Metropolis,” Mamdani mentioned in a publish on the social media platform X early Wednesday.
In his “Meet the Press” look, Mamdani mentioned that “1 in 4 New Yorkers reside in poverty, and the remaining are seemingly trapped in a state of tension.”
“And what we have seen is that it is a metropolis that must be inexpensive for the individuals who construct it on daily basis,” he added.
