Watch stay: Peter Welch unveils laws to fight Trump ‘sick tax’

Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) will communicate Tuesday afternoon on recently introduced legislation focusing on President Trump’s “sick tax,” a provision within the GOP-led spending and tax package that can require Medicaid enrollees to pay extra out of pocket when visiting a well being care supplier.

Welch, together with different Democrats, has in latest weeks pushed again in opposition to sweeping cuts and reforms to Medicaid included within the “large, stunning invoice” that Trump signed into law on July 4.

“Because of this, seniors, kids, folks with disabilities, and dealing households already
combating to make ends meet shall be pressured to pay an out-of-pocket price earlier than they’ll
obtain important well being care companies,” the Vermont Democrat wrote in an announcement introducing the Repealing the Trump Sick Tax Act.

“This ‘sick tax’ imposed by President Trump and Congressional Republicans will power Medicaid enrollees to decide on between paying their payments and receiving important care each time they should see a supplier,” he added.

Welch’s remarks are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
