Rockies choose Ethan Holliday in MLB draft, son of former Rocky, Matt

The Colorado Rockies will see two generations of Hollidays.

The franchise chosen Ethan Holliday — son of former Rocky and seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday — with the No. 4 decide within the MLB draft on Sunday.

Matt spent his first seven MLB seasons with the Rockies in addition to his ultimate marketing campaign in 2018. Colorado chosen Matt within the seventh spherical in 1998, and he performed a key function within the franchise reaching its first World Collection, in 2007.

In line with ESPN Analysis, Ethan is the primary top-five decide to be drafted by a staff for whom his father performed.

Ethan — who performed infield at Oklahoma’s Stillwater Excessive College — is also the brother of Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday.

Moments after Ethan was chosen, Colorado posted a photograph of him with a Rockies uniform on holding a purple bat with a pacifier in his mouth. In a separate slide, Matt is cradling Ethan as a toddler in a purple Rockies shirt.

“I had just a little little bit of a sense as the times began trickling down — there was just a little one thing inside me that was type of leaning in direction of the Rockies,” Ethan Holliday said, in response to MLB.com. “And my mother [Leslee Holliday] stated she had a sense too. We’re so juiced and so excited for this chance, and it is fairly unimaginable.”

Ethan was the 2025 Oklahoma Gatorade participant of the yr and 2025 MaxPreps Oklahoma participant of the yr. He had a .611 batting common plus 19 residence runs and 64 RBIs final season.
