Roy Cooper hints at 2026 Senate run

Former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) hinted over the weekend that he plans to run for the open U.S. Senate seat in his state throughout the 2026 election cycle.

The favored governor spoke at the N.C. Democratic Party’s annual Unity Dinner Saturday night time, amid reviews that he plans to launch a Senate bid quickly.

“Everyone who’s planning to run for workplace subsequent yr, please rise up,” Cooper requested the gang.

He then added: “I’m not sitting down, am I?”

The gang cheered and chanted, “Run, Roy, run,” in accordance with local reports.

Many Democrats have been hoping Cooper would enter the race, after Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) introduced he wouldn’t run for reelection, after bucking the president and voting against his large tax and spending invoice.

The occasion comes shortly after local reporting surfaced that former Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-N.C.), who launched his marketing campaign for Senate in April, is now mulling whether or not to droop his bid and as a substitute run for an open district lawyer place in Wake County.

Republican Nationwide Committee (RNC) Chair Michael Whatley is operating on the GOP aspect, with Trump’s endorsement.
