Tesla’s ‘robotaxi’ rides in San Francisco have a human on the wheel

Sports News

Tesla’s newly-launched ride-hailing service in San Francisco isn’t fairly prepared for the “robotaxi” designation. After launching its robotaxi rides in Austin, Texas, with a “security monitor” within the passenger seat final month, a video of Tesla’s service in San Francisco reveals a automobile arriving with a human on the wheel, as reported earlier by Business Insider.

California requires corporations to acquire three permits to function a business robotaxi service. Thus far, the state has granted Tesla just one of the permits, permitting it to run a ride-hailing service with people within the driver’s seat. The Alphabet-owned Waymo is presently the one firm with the permits to supply business driverless rides in San Francisco.

Though the service in Texas and California hasn’t but achieved Musk’s promise of working with “nobody within the automobile,” Musk told Tesla investors final week that he plans to develop robotaxi service to Florida, Nevada, and Arizona.
