Sweeney, greatest recognized for her portrayal of Cassandra “Cassie” Howard on HBO’s Euphoria, has faced a barrage of criticism this week following the discharge of her American Eagle advertisements, which play off the phrases “genes” and “denims.”
“Genes are handed down from dad and mom to offspring, usually figuring out traits like hair coloration, persona, and even eye coloration,” the actor explains in one of many advertisements. “My denims are blue.”
A narrator then reads the tagline: “Sydney Sweeney has nice denims.”
