Metallica’s Lars Ulrich addressed rumors that the band is circling a Las Vegas Sphere residency — in addition to angling for the halftime present at subsequent 12 months’s Super Bowl — in an interview Wednesday with Howard Stern.
Earlier this week, rumors emerged out of Las Vegas that Metallica was eyeing a residency on the state-of-the-art Sphere venue within the fall of 2026, after their present M72 World Tour ends subsequent July.
Chatting with the Howard Stern Present on Wednesday on Sirius XM, Ulrich admitted the Sphere residency is one thing the band is contemplating, however “nothing is etched in stone” but. “I’m not going to substantiate something, as a result of there’s nothing to substantiate. However I’m not going to disclaim it, as a result of we’re all such followers of this venue,” Ulrich stated.
“All of our managers and our manufacturing folks have been there and checked out it. It’s one thing that we’re contemplating, [but] nothing is etched in stone or green-lit. It’s one thing that we’re sooner or later when the 2026 tour is finished… I’m not going to bullshit you; I’d fucking like to do it, let there be no query about it. It’s not signed, sealed, and delivered, however talking to me and asking my opinion, I’d fucking like to do it.”
Ulrich added of the venue, “I used to be there seeing U2 the primary evening. Once they took that stage, I wished to see it for myself earlier than I noticed it on YouTube or examine it. One other gig Ulrich is hopeful about: The halftime present on the 2026 Tremendous Bowl, which shall be performed at Levi’s Stadium outdoors of the band’s native San Francisco. When requested by Stern whether or not Metallica would play the Tremendous Bowl if requested, Ulrich responded, “Fuck yeah, in fact, we might.”
“To begin with, we might do it,” the drummer stated. “Second of all to do it in San Francisco can be a dream come true and can be the suitable match… Certainl,y as any individual who’s represented San Francisco everywhere in the world and shouted for many years about San Francisco and our love for the Bay Space, that a part of it’s the proper match. Finally it’s not our determination.”
Nonetheless, Ulrich cautioned, “We haven’t been approached.”
Ulrich’s look on Stern — who returned from his summer season break to conduct the interview — was to advertise the brand new Sirius XM channel Most Metallica, launching on the finish this month. To rejoice the brand new channel, Metallica will carry out an intimate one-off gig at Amagansett, New York’s Stephen Talkhouse, a 250-person venue, on August 28. The lottery for tickets is now open to Metallica’s fan membership.
