Amazon plans to spend $10 billion on new information facilities in North Carolina to broaden its synthetic intelligence infrastructure, the corporate said Wednesday.
Amazon has earmarked as much as $100 billion this 12 months on capital expenditures, with the lion’s share going to AI-related tasks. Much like different main tech corporations, Amazon is racing to build out its capacity to energy AI duties as a way to preserve tempo with rivals together with Microsoft, Google and OpenAI.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has called generative AI a “once-in-a-lifetime kind of enterprise alternative.”
The funding in North Carolina will create roughly 500 jobs within the state, Amazon stated.
“Generative AI is driving elevated demand for superior cloud infrastructure and compute energy, and our funding will help the way forward for AI from AWS information facilities within the Tar Heel State,” the corporate wrote in a weblog put up.
The corporate stated in January it might spend at least $11 billion in Georgia to construct new information facilities to help cloud computing and AI demand.
Amazon has introduced a slew of generative AI merchandise over the previous 12 months, together with its personal language fashions, Trainium chips, a buying chatbot and a market for third-party fashions referred to as Bedrock.
