Why are US professors suing to problem the Trump administration’s crackdown on pro-Palestine activism?
A number of teams of professors in america are suing the Trump administration over its coverage of arresting, detaining, cancelling visas, and deporting college students who take part in pro-Palestinian advocacy.
The crackdown on free speech is making a chilling impact throughout US academia, argues Jamil Jaffer, govt director of the Knight First Modification Institute at Columbia College, which is among the organisations that introduced the lawsuit.
Jaffer tells host Steve Clemons that the difficulty is far wider than the rights of non-citizens within the nation. The federal government’s actions have the impact of “stifling a political viewpoint that the federal government doesn’t like”.
