Homeland Safety warns of Iran-backed cyberattacks focusing on US networks

A bulletin issued Sunday by U.S. Homeland Safety stated it expects to see Iranian government-backed hackers conduct assaults in opposition to U.S. networks, amid the continuing battle between the U.S. and Israel and Iran.

The Nationwide Terrorism Advisory System bulletin stated low-level cyberattacks by hacktivists are “possible,” including that hacktivists and government-linked hackers “routinely goal” poorly secured U.S. networks and internet-connected units to trigger disruption.

The bulletin was printed days after a collection of U.S. and Israeli air strikes focused Iran’s nuclear program, which appeared to coincide with harmful hacks carried out by a pro-Israel hacking group, dubbed Predatory Sparrow. The hackers took out one of Iran’s top banks and destroyed millions in cryptocurrency held by the nation’s largest crypto trade.

Following the preliminary spherical of Israeli air strikes, the Iranian authorities confirmed it shut down the country’s internet to guard in opposition to cyberattacks.

Iran is thought for its offensive cyber capabilities, together with long-running espionage operations targeting senior U.S. politicians and government officials, in addition to disruptive cyberattacks designed to steal information from companies and tech giants, usually through the use of known vulnerabilities or stolen passwords.
