Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Monday stated he plans to speculate “lots of of billions of {dollars}” into artificial intelligence compute infrastructure, and that Meta plans to deliver its first supercluster on-line subsequent 12 months.
A supercluster is a big, complicated computing community that is designed to coach superior AI fashions and deal with their workloads.
“Meta Superintelligence Labs could have industry-leading ranges of compute and by far the best compute per researcher,” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post on Monday. “I am wanting ahead to working with the highest researchers to advance the frontier!”
Zuckerberg stated Meta’s first supercluster is named Prometheus, and that the corporate is constructing a number of different multi-gigawatt clusters. One cluster, known as Hyperion, will be capable to scale as much as 5 gigawatts over a number of years, he stated.
Zuckerberg has been on a multibillion-dollar AI hiring spree in current weeks, highlighted by a $14 billion funding in Scale AI. He introduced a new organization in June known as Meta Superintelligence Labs that is made up of prime AI researchers and engineers.
Zuckerberg had grown frustrated with Meta’s progress in AI, particularly after the launch of its Llama 4 AI models in April acquired a lukewarm response from builders. He’s revamping Meta’s method to raised compete with rivals like OpenAI and Google.
“For our superintelligence effort, I am centered on constructing essentially the most elite and talent-dense crew within the {industry},” Zuckerberg wrote Monday.
