Phillies’ Nick Castellanos benched for ‘inappropriate remark’

Sports News

Outfielder Nick Castellanos is being withheld from the Philadelphia Phillies‘ lineup Tuesday in opposition to the Miami Marlins for making an “inappropriate remark” on Monday, supervisor Rob Thomson advised reporters.

“One of many many issues about Nick that I really like is that he is very emotional,” Thomson mentioned. “He likes to play, and he likes to play each inning of each sport. I simply thought final evening he made an inappropriate remark after he got here out, and so as we speak, he isn’t going to play. And I will depart it at that.”

Castellanos’ consecutive video games streak will finish at 236. The final sport he missed for the Phillies was on Sept. 30, 2023.

Thomson mentioned Castellanos made the remark after he was faraway from Monday evening’s sport within the eighth inning for defensive functions. He was changed by Johan Rojas, who performed middle discipline whereas Max Kepler shifted from middle to take over for Castellanos in proper discipline.

Kepler is also taking part in proper discipline in Tuesday evening’s sport.

“I wasn’t completely satisfied about it, spoke my thoughts,” Castellanos mentioned Tuesday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He mentioned that I crossed a line. So, my punishment is I am not taking part in.”

Castellanos, in his fourth season with the Phillies after signing a five-year $100 million contract in 2022, is hitting .278 with seven residence runs and 36 RBIs this season.
