HOUSTON — Texans operating again Joe Mixon shall be out a majority of the preseason with an ankle damage and shall be reevaluated nearer to the beginning of the common season, a supply confirmed to ESPN.
NFL Community was first to report the information.
Mixon injured his ankle over the offseason and did not take part in OTAs or minicamp, which landed him on the non-football injury list to start out coaching camp.
Mixon, who turned 29 on Thursday, rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024, incomes him Professional Bowl honors in his first season for the Texans.
The Texans took steps to offset Mixon’s potential absence this offseason by signing four-time Professional Bowl operating again Nick Chubb after his seven-year stint with the Cleveland Browns and drafting Woody Marks out of USC within the fourth spherical of April’s NFL draft.
The opposite choices to fill in for Mixon are operating backs Dameon Pierce, who’s on the bodily unable to carry out record, and Dare Ogunbowale.
The Texans have their first preseason sport on Aug. 9 as they journey to Minnesota to face the Vikings.
