Twins place outfielder Byron Buxton (rib cage) on 10-day IL

The Minnesota Twins positioned All-Star outfielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured checklist Tuesday as he continues to cope with left rib cage irritation.

The transfer got here two days after Twins supervisor Rocco Baldelli advised reporters Buxton would not require an IL stint.

Buxton, 31, left Saturday’s 9-3 loss to the visiting Washington Nationals due to left-side soreness and sat out Sunday and Monday. His transfer to the IL is retroactive to Sunday.

Although Buxton has handled a spate of accidents all through his profession, the two-time All-Star has largely been wholesome this season aside from occurring the concussion injured checklist in Could.

Buxton is hitting .282 with 23 homers, 59 RBIs and 17 steals in 85 video games this season. He has a .343 on-base share, .561 slugging share and .905 OPS. He’s a profession .249 hitter with 156 homers and 412 RBIs in 857 video games for the Twins for the reason that 2015 season.

In corresponding roster strikes, the Twins reinstated catcher Ryan Jeffers from the paternity checklist and chosen the contract of right-handed pitcher Pierson Ohl from Triple-A St. Paul.

Jeffers, 28, is batting .254 with seven homers and 34 RBIs in 83 video games this season.

Ohl, 25, has but to make his main league debut. In 22 video games (5 begins) break up amongst Class-A Fort Myers, Double-A Wichita and St. Paul, Ohl has gone 5-2 with a 2.17 ERA and two saves. He is fanned 79 batters and walked simply 10.
